I think what you're afraid of is skunking your beer. That occurs when sunlight (UV) begins breakign down hop molecules giving that skunk taste. Your beer will be fine if removed from the kegerator....

How about pushing the collar back slightly so that it sits flush on the closed hinge? IF that makes the front not flush - and unacceptable in your opinion then I'd just add some washers as a spacer...
