Ball lock gauge for pressure testing corny kegs

HBT has such a wealth of information and members. I'm trying to navigate the waters into distilling, but haven't found solid plans like a Brutus 10 for distilling. Any body got any ideas? HBT...

They can't be crossed because it has a threaded fitting.

Also, what is the function of the lock nut on the set screw? Typically, I just loosen or tighten the screw to hit my PSI and don't mess with the lock nut.
