Tuesday, I racked a porter to secondary after six weeks in primary. I just noticed today that is has a thin krausen layer on top. I kind of freaked at first, but I dont believe it to be an infection.

Hops (especially with high alpha acids) create head. So if you're brewing an IPA, you generally dont have to worry.

Certain grains/malts also help with head, such as carapils or torrified wheat....

I think one of the main problems that occurs is that establishments don't clean their lines regularly. That makes a huge impact in drinking a proper pint.

iron city is correct. i taped over the hole and then punctured it to put the air lock in. after that, i put a few pieces of tape around the airlock to secure it. however, it needed further fastening....
