Try tightening the regulator hose to the tank. I had the same thing happen and had to really tighten it down to get it to work.

Did you take your sample from the spigot? If so the thicker wort would be on the bottom if not fully mixed with the top off water.

I did my first batch with EC1118 and it came out...

I did my first batch with EC1118 and it came out good. It did come out more like a dry white wine, so I can see saying that it did strip out the apple flavor. Was still enjoyable though.
