I do the opposite. I give my starters infant gas drops. Half the cost of fermcap but the same effect. I don't think I'd be comfortable doing it the other way around though.

I usually wait three except for my overly hopped ipas, which ill sample as early as ten days. The highly hopped beers seem to carb faster and I like to get drinking them before the aroma fades.

I just did the same thing Friday night. I think I pitch my stir bar 25% of the time. I just tape a note on my fermenter "hey dumbass you pitched your stir bar," so I at least remember to retrieve it...
