I would agree that making yeast starters from liquid yeasts would be the easiest and cheapest improvement. After that fermentation temperature control is definitely critical - letting it creep out...

I used my side burner on the grill in a soup can and that worked like a charm. Once I added the crayon and smelled the result, I was glad I was outside! ;)

PtY is draught only in the spring, but other RR is doable (ask for Blind Pig) ... other west coast brews you could as for - Modern Times and Farm to Barrelre two that come to mind quickly.
