Marc - I'm not sure what the thickness is, but it's fairly thin. I bought it from Austin Homebrew, but it's no longer listed on their website.

I don't know who the manufacturer is, but I bought the kettle from Austin Homebrew. Most (maybe all) of the fittings are from Wayne at Bargain Fittings

I say go for it. I would toast them. Maybe brew your beer as normal, and when bottling add some to the last of beer in your bottling bucket?

550 won't give you a Hefeweizen or a Wit, but it will give you a great beer. I would give it a little longer to age than a hefe or wit (both of which can be drunk young).

How do you clean it? A CIP attachment? I can't tell if the top area where the airlock is inserted comes off or not. If it's stainless, then $75 sounds like a good deal even if it's a pain to clean.
