I wouldnt worry about it, coppers melting point is almost 2000f so your boiling wort isnt even coming close to hurting it.

To answer the OPs question about cooking in a quarter keg. My first brew kettle was a tall and skinny quarter keg with the top cut out. It worked well for 5 gallon batches with a propane camp burner....
