I just recently did my first AG, also with a newly converted cooler. +1 on preheating mash tun. Also +1 on the blankets! I did both, and only lost a degree or two in the hours time.

Actually, the airlock isn't a good way to judge fermentation. It's just a way to let the CO2 out and not let anything else in. HYDROMETER! That is the real way you want to check the fermentation...

Looks normal. Close the lid, and let it sit for a couple weeks! Then bottle it. A few more weeks after that, you can start to enjoy them!!!
