I was confused if part of the reason was to clarify the beer. If so then I assume you want to use a carboy fit 30 days so the end result can go to a keg. If I rack to a keg immediately then my guess...

Lager cold crash - in keg with co2?

My first lager is fermenting away just fine but looking ahead at the final cold crash stage I'm confused. The advice is 30 days at 35 degrees. Is that in a secondary carboy? Or can I rack to a keg,...

I think what I should have done is get my wort to 80 as best I could then transfer to the chest freezer and tape the probe to the side of the carboy and set the controller to 50. Then maybe in an...

I think we have the same setup but with an immersion chiller and a pre-chiller but in 15 minutes I'd be lucky to get to 80 degrees, and there is no way I could get to 50.

Thanks for the reply. I think I need another post on the lagering step. To keep my brewing cycle going I could lager in the keezer if it's ok to do that in a keg but I need to ask more questions.

My probe is in a carboy with some water but that just makes sure the freezer stays at 50, which is good but doesn't get my wort cold fast.

But attaching the probe to the carboy might help.

I think we live in different temp zones. I use an immersion chiller and a pre-chiller that is in a bucket of ice to get my wort to 80. I can't imagine how much water it would take to get my wort to...

Getting wort to lager pitch temp

I brewed my first lager today and wanted to use my new fermentation chamber (chest freezer with Johnson controller). In my head I thought I'd get the wort down to ale temps then let the chest freezer...

First lager fermentation temp advice

After years of ales in brewing my first lager based on the recipe in Brewing Classic Styles. I'd like to keep this simple if I can but I don't want to risk a bad batch. The recipe calls for a...

I will admit I'm a bit scared. The chest freezer is new and there is tons of drama around it (I hate drama). Lowe's took forever to deliver it (without telling me anything), then failed to notify me...

The plastic is another good idea. If I can find something that works I will try that too. I am concerned about air. Right now I see some condensation with just the probe so I think that means air is...

Protecting probe in chest freezer

I just got a chest freezer and controller for fermentation control and while the temp swings a bit much it all seems to work. Unlike my keezer I do not net a collar. But I am a bit concerned about...

The valve on the outgoing pump line makes sense. I will add that to my list of parts.
