Not sure yet, I haven't even cracked open the carboy yet. I did end up keeping the temp up around 69* for the rest of week 1. I slowly lowered it down to ambient during week 2. I'll give it another...

I do plan on using a temp controller. I've only had the equipment for a couple brews now, but I can already see wanting another thermostat temp controller. This brew with wy3724 will need to be temp...

Great. I figure I'll put the carboy in my upstairs closet, where the ambient temp will probably be in the 70's. Glad to hear it can do the job to bump it up another 20* into the 90's.

Do FermWraps Heat Well to 95?

I'm planning on brewing a saison with WY3724 and I have a FremWrap that I plan to use. I've used it to gently heat into the low 70's before. But I was curious, do these things reliably heat into the...

I was hesitant about using both packages of whole leafs to dry hop. I'll probably just use the EKG. I don't have anything in terms of downward temp control. I just started dabbling in temp control. I...

Falconer's Flight hops are great, but I think you're wise to not use them for the bittering addition. I've used them twice, once just for the flavor/aroma additions and once for all the hop...

Thanks for the feedback Yooper. I wondered if that was the case. Although its darker still than what I'd expect, I assume that's just because its radically more clear than below it, and below the...

Odd Black Hue in Secondary

I've got a Vienna/tettnanger smash in secondary and it has this odd black hue to it, isolated to the top couple inches. I've never fermented in carboys before, so I'm not sure if this is just an...

Maybe I'll turn on the heat to stop the free fall; let it bounce around in the 68-70 range for another week before letting it fall back to ambient.

I definitely didn't under pitch, it was a two step starter for this one. Can't recall the exact count, but it was a slight over pitch. I can temp control upwards, just not downwards. I hadn't...

Do you typically ferment other (basic) styles longer, or are your IPAs more quick into the bottle? Also, do you dry hop in primary or rack onto them in a secondary?

Shorter primary for IPAs?

This question is really for the faction of brewers who tend towards the 1 month primary, then bottle. I fall into this. I'm curious though, do people in this faction ever cut thier primary times...

WLP007 at 70

Just curios what flavor profile to expect? I pitched at 63* and just let it free rise. Day 1 it rose to 64*. Throughout day to it rose to 70*, but there was an accelerated pace at the end of the day....

I certainly wouldn’t say that bottling outside is notably safe. But I also wouldn’t say that doing so without catching an infection is tantamount to dodging a bullet. It’s just like missing one of...

The more I'm reading to get my ducks in a row for this recipe, I keep seeing people rave about the Amarillo/Simcoe combo. I'm stoked about this recipe now.

Was it just the one batch, or did you ever bottle outside again?

If I had to wager a guess, I'd say if I do it once, chances are it'll be just fine. But, if one makes a habit out of the practice,...

Bottle Day Outside

Ok, so a lot of people brew outside, of course, but does anyone BOTTLE outside? It's so nice out today, it'd make this otherwise boring task a bit more enjoyable. One question comes to mind though,...

For this particular recipe, I spread out the extra hops in the aroma additions with only a small bump in IBUs. I'm using equal parts Amarillo and Simcoe. Both seem to be lower on the cohumulone...

That's a good idea. I'm really trying to keep the IBUs in check. My last IPA just had too much bite that detracted from the flavor. With that said, I'm trying a combo of mash and first wort hopping...
