I thought that a 1L starter gets you 152 billion...

I thought that a 1L starter gets you 152 billion cells. A 2L starter will get you 200 billion cells. At least this is what I have read.

I used 3% in a 1.045 german ale. I thought it was too much. I scaled it down to 1% and it was better. I guess it depends on how high of a gravity your brew is.

If you keg, you can run some co2 in through the out tube and purge it a few times a day. It takes time to work. This was suggested to me and I haven't tired it myself.

I did all that. Oven baking, PBW, star san, you name it. Whatever got in it, I couldn't get it out. As soon as I used my old immersion chiller, good beer.

60F is perfect. I have a temp controler and didn't need it. I cooled to 68F and it started going when it cooled down to 66F. It has been 67F for a week.

Yes. It may be clear, but there will be sufficient yeast for bottle conditioning. I have even heard if you clear it with Gelatin, you can add a small amount of yeast at bottling time.

You wouldn't complain if you lived in Canada. Malt is cheap, but everything else is double to what it is in the US. Still, homebrewing is way cheaper than buying Budweiser at $38.00 a case.

I brewed on Friday and Saturday. A lot of work, especially cleaning everything quickly for the next brew. It is worth it though, to see all that beer fermenting away.

I have found that as I acquired more equipment, the harder it is to keep it all sanitary. Step up all your sanitation and chemicals/procedures and see if that helps.
