No problems so far. Oh, but I've got a false bottom AND a bazooka screen over my dip tube....

Do you see any problem with putting a vial directly into a 5L starter vs stepping up to 5L? Is there an affect on the yeast for the beer fermentation and/or for following generations?

Just off the top of my head,

Yeast can produce flavors that are desirable in certain cases, over pitching can subdue this.

Over pitching results in lazy yeast, so later generations are weaker....

Mr Malty gives numbers based on no rehydration (I assume).

Jamil says half of cells are killed without rehydration.
