It's happened to me when I overfill my carboy a bit, or if I have a really big beer and lots of yeast. It'll settle down. When it happens to me I just end up changing out the airlock a few times.

I don't know if the heavy duty one is waterproof. That might have been what I was originally going to buy but I know when I called in they told me to go with the PTFE/FEP TIP PROBES...

That sounds like a great idea, certainly save on the c02. If you used to pump your beer up it would probably stale faster due to 02, but for just testing seals I like it! I've had the best luck...

I like what you did. If it doesn't leak, it's good! Perhaps some metal working person would say otherwise but I like the idea of a gasket on each side although I suspect you actually only NEED one...
