I have seen some suggestions for head retentions in recipes and I am guessing there are some ingredients or processes that could inhibit head retention as well.

I would bottle it and drink it. If it is bad you would taste it right away. You may have grinded your grain too fine, did a poor job lautering or did not whirlpool to coagulate the proteins after...
