I did this as my first all grain a week ago. Didn't seem complicated, just a single infusion mash. Did you add anything extra to the process?

Sounds like a lot of extra effort and calculation for not that much extra reward. If it's lighter color you're chasing I'd just do a 2.5 gallon boil and a the majority of the extract close to the end...
