The reason I made the rings was to let the heat excape above the flame because I found that without them the heat was forced down into the flame witch would choke the the flame causing inefficiency...

I agree, it takes one 4 1/2" cutoff disk to do the job and then its too small to cut through the curled top edge on another keg, a 4 1/2" grinder is a good investment thou.

Look real close at the threads of the coupler it maybe cracked, cracks are sometimes very hard to see, use a bright light source and move it around slowly so the light hits the coulper at differnt...
