Just keep in mind that the temperature rise mentioned is for the most active part of fermentation. After some days temp inside the carboy and the ambient temp will start to equalize.

Didn't mean to be a party-pooper here. Set it at the absolute lowest effect and see where it gets you at. But for controlling the most active parts of fermentation, you def need a controller.

Give it three more days without disturbing it. It's hard to tell because of the flash in all the pictures. What you're looking for (in an infection) is a matte white film.
