I've never noticed losing beer through a blowoff tube. Certainly some is lost but a gallon, wow. Mine seems to be mostly yeast. How close to the beer level was your tube?

No I wouldn't bother unless you need the primary bucket to ferment another batch right away. Secondary fermentation happens regardless if your beer is in a primary or secondary vessel.
