I have been wondering what it would be like to condition a beer in a barrel other than an oak one. for example maple, rosewood, etc. Anybody ever try this?

another effective but kind of off the wall method I will tell you is to completely sterilize the soil. once its dried out put it on a tray or somthing and throw it in the oven around the 300F range...

I would just say as a word of caution theres this product that keeps pets out of your garden/crops I cant remember what its called for the life of me but it does help.
