How long can beer remain healthy in a fermenter?

Great job, but one huge mistake: you paid for empty bottles. Here's a little trick the pros use: you can buy bottles in beer stores and they come filled with free beer!

I had about 2.5G left in the pot after boiling was done. I then added enough water to make 4G. The OG of those 4G was 1.067

I doubt this would kill the yeast, but it may have pushed it into a dormant state, from which it might take a while to recover. If it doesn't recover (ie.: it's dead), adding more sugar won't help...
