I don't know about you but I like seeing pics of peoples setups, lots of pics, they help me form my own ideas and i'm sure there are others that could learn a thing or two as well. Here's my meager first year setup, Cascade will be on the left, Columbus on the right, lets see all your elaborate and not so elaborate gardens!

This is my first year growing, have the rhizomes in the ground now, hoping that its not too cold. 2 each of centennial and cascade. Been in for just over a week, no shoots coming up yet. Planted them in foot high mounds, with extra soil amendment to increase drainage. Anyways, here are a couple pics of my small garden. I usually cover the whole garden with shadecloth which helps keep the elements off of the new plants, and keeps everything just a bit warmer. Hope the weather stays as warm as it has (been lows 32-40 to highs 50's-60's), and I start seeing some shoots coming soon. Not sure, but hope I did not plant too soon... Will keep adding pics as things progress.

Going to grow the usual tomatoes, herbs by the hops (i.e. cilantro, basil, chives) for bug deterrent, super hot peppers (dorset nagas, naganeros, trinidad scorpions, and red savinas), some red and yellow potatoes, strawberries, a couple melons, maybe some onions. Just a few of each, nothing too crazy.

very impressive wolverinebrewer! You'll have a full hop yard in the back before long:rockin:

Just finished setting my post and running my lines

Obviously the 1x4s will be going away, as well as the huge pile of dirt... very excited for these guys to take off, as they're both second years and both only had about 7 feet to climb last year.

Just finished this last weekend. This weekend I'll top of the bed with compost/soil and then plant Cascade, Newport, Nugget & Willamette.

Planted last year, 2 chinook, centenial, golding, willamette, 2 cascades... I still have to finish the planters and plant herbs and tomatoes in between the hops planters. The trellis us about 12 feet at the lowest part

My 2nd year hops. 2 cascades and 2 centinnials. Trellis is about 11ft tall, but hope to get twice that by training the bines diagonally up the strings. That's my blackberry bush to the right, and my pile of dirt to the left. Any body need some dirt?

Here are my second year newports (ignore the dates, my cam screen froze/cracked while icefishing & the date resets when I change batteries)

Still waiting for signs of life from mine.

I'm patiently (read: checking them several times a day) waiting for mine to break ground as well.

However I know it will happen soon... the rhizomes were already trying to grow bine sprouts when they were in a plastic baggie.

Lol i'm guilty of checking mine a lot too, swmbo keeps saying "its not gonna look any different than it did last time you checked them!"

HA yeah SWMBO will make fun of me for it but she's into brewing as well so this is her project, too.

I don't know about that. I went to church on sunday and after lunch get home and had another bine pushed out

2nd year centennial, Chinook, and cascade.

Chinook and cascade

EDIT: Grr, sry small pics. Centennial are about 5'+ with one bine per line but already sending out side arms. Cascade and Chinook are about 4'+ with one bine per line plus tons of sprouts from the base, cant keep up trimming the extra runners coming out of the chicken wire. Concentrated on all root growth with organic Mycorrhiza additions. Each bine is super strong and about as thick as my pinky finger. I am really happy with the attention to root development via fertilizer and organic compost.

Haha yea I always respond with "they grow really fast, you don't understand!"

Finally got my Trellis finished up last night. For my posts I went out on my property and found a couple of Cedar Trees that were kinda scraggegly. Cut them down and trimmed them to 19ft. I sunk them 3' in the ground, hoping that I could get the trellis 16' high, but once I was up on the ladder to hang the rope 16' was out of safe reach so I had to settle for about 14'. I love hops but it's not worth a trip to the Hospital. Anyhow, I've got 6 varieties, Chinook,Cascade,Centennial,Nugget,Columbus & Hallertauer. All in All this only cost me about $40.:mug:

I check mine daily. I like to take a sharpie with me and mark the twine where the growth stops, so I can see how far they grow daily, or weekly... My Nugget bines are insane, at about 5' already in Central PA!

Oh, and my wife thinks I'm nuts too. I've already had my Nugget hops grow around 10" a day in their first year (last year)...

Here's my first attempt at a trellis, needs some shoring up but hope it works. These are 2nd year Mt Hood, Fuggle, Golding, and Centennial.

I need to take some pictures but the second year Chinook in Chicago is going NUTS! Just hit 10ft high and it is not even may yet!

Wow, even with the cold weather we've been having? My 2nd year Cascades & Centennials stopped growing once it got cold again - maybe a foot or two.

You've got to beware of training first-emerging bines, especially with goofy weather like we've had this year causing a premature flush of bines to emerge. "Racers" won't form as many laterals and won't typically yield anywhere near that of second emerging bines.

I could have trained mine as long ago as a month ago but waited. I will be training them within the next 5 or 6 days (when I get to it) and only training the newer/shorter bine shoots ... trimming the rest that have gone haywire due to the earlier heatwave and premature warming of ground temps.

Ahh.. but this was not a first shoot, I spend some time being mean to the poor thing before letting a shoot go... Perhaps I was a bit early letting one go.. he has a few laterals on him, one heck of a thick bine!

I like that. Did you use 3/4 or 1/2" galvanized pipe for the top? Im stealing that idea. Thanks for posting the picture.
