I want to reuse the yeast 1056 from my current primary in an IPA that I am brewing on Saturday. What is the process for doing this. I intend to make a starter with it.

you can do two things.

(1) just pitch your new wort into the carboy that has the yeast cake already in it.

(2) search for "yeast washing" on this forum and read up.

I've been brewing for over a year now and recently I racked onto a previous yeast cake of Wyeast 1272. I haven't attempted yeast washing yet, but plan on it.

My question is: how many times can you rack on top of a cake before the yeast are tired of working? If you wash the yeast does it stay active for more batches?
