So Im making the jump into all grain, and have read more articles and forums than I'd like to admit, and one of the problems I keep reading is the deadspace under false bottoms if you're not using a pick up tube with a pump. Im looking at building my own MLT, and Im thinking the best way for me to go is to do a 10 gal (room for growth) round cooler with a flat false bottom. To counter act the dead space underneath the false bottom, would it make sense to put some filler to take up some room? An example would be some sterilized hockey pucks, with 1/8th inch risers so channeling is not an issue.

Does this make any sense or have I read my self dumb.

What obstacles are you thinking will get in your way for using a pick up tube? You can gravity feed from a pick up tube as well (no pump required).
