I got the following grains for a stout I'm going to do:

Chocolate Malt
Roasted Barley
Flaked Barley

The place I order them from(online) did not crush the grains.

Since I don't have any type of mill I was going to use a few quick pulses in my food processor to crack the grains.

So my noob question is, do all of the above grains require cracking?

Flakes do not. The other two do. I've never used a processor, but I can imagine that it's not very good at what you're trying to do. Some grains would get pulverized, others would remain untouched. My suggestion (this is what I did prior to owning the barley crusher) is get a big heavy duty ziploc bag and put the grains inside...then run a rolling pin over them until they're crushed. Works very well for specialty grains, though I wouldn't rely on it for base grains.
