Do clear wine bottles hurt the wine, like clear bottles hurt beer??

Yes, that is why only young and fruity white wines are bottled in clear glass. Chardonnays are usually in green/brown, and all reds are in colored glass.
Even white wines can get "light struck" though, so it's good to keep them in a cool dark place.
