1 tbsp olive oil
1.5lb braising steak,cut into cubes
2 onions, peeled and chopped into large chunks
1 tbsp plain flour
3/4 pint of ale/stout/beer,what ever you got.
2 bay leaf
1 sprig thyme
salt and freshly ground black pepper
6oz mushrooms cut in large chunks
8oz puff pastry
heat the oil in a large pan, then add the meat and fry until browned all over.Add the onion and cook for a further min.
Stir in the flour and gradually add the ale, stirring all the time(the beer may froth).Add the bay leaf and thyme, and season well.cover and simmer gently for one and a half hours.
I usualy make the pastry now(or you can buy ready to roll stuff).
preheat the oven to gas 7/220c or 425f.
Add the mushrooms to the meat and stir.Transfer to an ovenproof pie dish and dampen the top edges.
Roll out the pastry and cover the dish, pinch the edges with your finger tips.brush the pastry with a beaten egg or milk, put 2 or 3 slits in the top.
bake in the oven for 25-30 mins or till its golden brown.
This is a realy nice pie so enjoy!
