Need Help With Fermentation Chamber

So, I've taken apart my compact fridge and am ready to connect to my fermentation chamber. I noticed the copper running on the sides was almost in the foam and then just had the metal sides attached. I am assuming this is for letting the heat out, but I am not sure. I am assuming I cannot just put the wooden sides over this. What if I left some space and put vents on it? Are there some other good options?
