Is this based on old chub by oskar blues? If so, how'd it compare?

Yes...thats exactly it.

You read between the lines on the name

Stuart Mackenzie is the father in "So I married an Ax Murder with Mike Myers....one of my favorite Scottish charecters.

And Old Chubby is of course a reference to Old Chubb....my second favorite beer.

As far as taste goes I don't know yet...I've done a lot of research on putting the recipe together and I think it should be excellent but I don't know yet..brew day is Saturday 5/7/11.

looks pretty good. I would probably choose a little english hop character over noble hops...but its been so long since I've had old chub I can't remember the taste that well. I would also lean towards some kettle caramelization or a longer boil. Regardless, looks like a good starting point...please let me know how it compares...a scottish ale is on my list to brew this summer.

Good points.

I had accomodated for the kettle carmeliization....I plan to reduce the first runnings volume from say 2 gals to 1.

:rockin:
