Hey guys,

In the process of putting together a mash tun using a cooler. Random question I can't seem to think up the answer to on my own is if you make a manifold at the bottom, aren't in theory, you missing out on potential high concetrated wort??

Obviously a false bottom works best but is there a way to get the same output with a manifold??

Thanks

The slits in the manifold should be on the bottom to pick up the wort close to the mash tun floor. You'll get the sugars out that you are worried about during the sparge ( which is basically what the sparge is intended for ).

It is possible that any mashtun can have deadspace that wort wont be collected from. With a false bottom, I believe mine is 1/2G. I suppose I could tweak it and have less. A manifold or braid might have more or less, depending on the placement.
