Hop Growers,

I just recently purchased two hop rhizomes in small pots. The Kent Goldings, so far, has 6 shoots and the Willamette has two. I plan to plant them soon. Is there any reason not to plant them in a standard garden along side tomatoes, onions, beans, etc?

The first year will be cool but in years to come you may have less space for the others to frolic as the hops tend to want to spread out. It's not out of the question if you are diligent at keeping the hops in check. It's a good place to get them established and next year you can move them to a more permanent spot.
