ok.. So My starting Gravity for this brew was 1.035, seemed kind of low for this beer. 8 days later its 1.017, ill check it again in 4 days. I have some concerns about the process.

In the pictures you see the grains steeping, Unfortunately after I had started everything I had realized I had no grain bags. What you see the grains in is a baking cheese cloth, it wasn't big enough for all the grain so I kind of "made it fit" and stuffed it all in it. I steeped for about 35 minutes at 158 degrees, and it seemed that it worked fine. My concern is that the grain was to tight and it didn't completely steep out, could this be the reason for the low gravity levels? Also I don't think the beer is as dark as it should be, could this be why?

It smells and tastes good, just wondering if these are the reasons its not "right"...

Was this a brew in bag only or was there malt extract you added? What was your target OG? 1.035 doest seem like a TERRIBLE og. It will just be a session beer. I had a beer that I let sit for 20 days and it finnalllly dropped down to 1.010 after sitting at 1.014 forever. One last question for you, What is a California person doing brewing a Kansas beer? and thanks for the beer porn pics:D

This was a Malt extract with steeping grains, the instructions didn't say what the OG should be, nor did they say what the FG should be. My brother and sister in law live in Kansas, and they brew, they sent me the recipe and kit for X-mas..

9 days later still 1.017, Safe to bottle?

Hey guys. I am new to adding Gelatin to the beer. What is this for? and what would happen if an idiot like myself didn't read the directions on the gelatin packet and just added it and stirred? The packet says boil in water to dissolve and add when hot then stir vigorously. I just added and stirred. Did I mess up?
