I've brewed a few 1 gallon batches 3 IPAs a pale ale & black IPA & nut brown. I am having trouble getting my gravities right. The ones my gravity has been close I've added more grains to recipe. Beersmith calculates everything differently when i do this I also use brewpal which I have greater comfort with. I just got grains to brew 5 gallon zombie dust. I don't wanna brew anything less than 6% abv any clues or tips? I figure I'm brewing close to 55% efficiency.

Are you adjusting the efficiency number in Beersmith to 55%? The default is usually set around 72% so you will be undershooting every time with your efficiency if you don't change the numbers.
Speaking of efficiency, that's pretty low. What is your technique? How is your crush?

I get it crushed at brew shop but I've gotten my grains from two different lhbs so I'm pretty sure that's not it I explained my low gravity so they were happy to run it through twice. I use a 2 gallon cooler for mash. Then batch sparge twice now. I had low temp n sparged too quickly first batch so I've adjusted. Brewed couple pale ales couple IPAs nut Brown & black IPA.

I plan on doing a 5 gallon batch zombie dust with different equipment. I used my one gallon break down just x by 5 so well see.
