Tempature for maturing??

I have a couple of 1 gallon batches of cider on the go. They have gone through the primary fermentation and i have racked them off into 1 gallon demijohns and fitted an airlock. I plan on leaving them for a few months then racking off the sediment again then leaving for another few months to mature. My question is.. What tempature do the demijohns need to be left in. I left them in my garage for a night and it was so cold that the airlock started to let air in which i assume is not good so i bought them inside and their now in the back of a wardrobe. Is this ok or do they need to be cooler?
