Actually this time I didn't succumb to the "post first, search later" phenomenon. I actually spent 20 minutes or so searching for my answer before I posted this and didn't exactly find what I was searching for.

I made my first yeast starter last night and put an airlock on it. It's definately pushing the solution forward and it will bubble once every 5 minutes or so. Is this normal or should I see more activity than this?

It's normal.

I'll make mine a day or two in advance. It's tempting to stand there and watch it, but don't...

I'll pick mine up and swirl it two or three times, put it down and forget about it.

But you're good.

Chillax.
