Malt/grain type

heya folks,

Not sure if right forum but here goes. I'm a local truck driver that hauls bulk food products including malt! My question is the type of malt and wht i can use it for. I know its 2 row from either brewers supply group or cargill, depending on the railcar we load from. So grabbing a 5lb bucket fullis no problem lol. I'm guessing its just a 'generic' base malt, but any info is greatly appreciated!

I would imagine if it's bulk 2 row malt (not bagged), then it is base malt. So you can use it for the base of virtually any beer. Specialty grains would be bagged after manipulation.

Edit: If you're hauling some through western colorado, I'll trade some homebrew for some malt, Heheh.

Is it brewer's grade malt? It might be headed for a pet food factory.

Yes it is brewer's grade malt. I deliver it to local breweries and micro breweries. And no I'm not stealing it, lol there's catch buckets for spills off conveyor to keep it off ground.

Unless it is labeled otherwise, it's the base malt used for just about any beer. It needs to be crushed and most recipes call for specialty grains as well.

He's not stealing, he's taking what would normally be tossed out home, much like the more adventurous among us rummaging through the dumpster or recycling bin behind local bars looking for bottles. Now if he were intentionally pushing stuff off the elevator/conveyor into the bucket, it would be a different story.

This thread isn't asking whether or not you all consider it stealing. he's simply asking if it's ok to use for brewing. As others have posted in similar positions, customer for this size deliveries are usually more then welcome to let you take run off like this as it means nothing to them.

Yes, was just asking for clrification. I haven't taken any. Really no need as I am not nearly good enuff to use it. I still freak out using extract lmao. Besides, dont think i would ever need that much so i just buy it from suppliers, along with everything else i need lol. And yes TL I agree 100% stealing is stealing, one thing i cant stand are thieves, its easier just to buy it. Sry for any confusion this post caused with my wording.
