This is my first time making a starter and I pitched from a bottle of homebrew I'm trying to save money. Does this look normal?

A thread entitled "Never done this before" and a post with "does this look normal" has so much potential. It sounds like a Love Line caller question.

Yes, looks normal* for a starter. But you'll have a hell of a time getting any yeast. You can save money, but culturing your own yeast from your own bottles with one bottle will take more DME and time than a new pack would cost.

*as long as it doesn't burn, itch or otherwise have any painful discharge.

Hard to say from the pic but it just looks like there is not much activity.
I would probably not put the dregs of one bottle into 500ml of wort. I usually start with 100 - 150ml and then step up.
Are you using a stir plate? What type of yeast is it.
