Does it make a difference what type of DME you use to make a yeast starter?

If I plan on making a weizen, should I use wheat malt extract?

If i plan on brewing with dark ME, should I use dark ME for the starter?

Or, does it no matter, so long as I am using malt extract?

I always go with the lightest form of regular malt extract possible, so it's closer to pure malt. You could go with wheat extract, but regular extract would be my choice. I would not go with dark, because without research, you don't know what sort of specialty grain was used in the malting process to make it "dark".

I use the lightest regular, for me that's Extra Light DME, but you could use regular Light DME just as well. I decant most of it off my starter anyway
