I've never had a beer blow over yet. At first I thought it wouldn't even ferment properly so I double wrapped it to heat it up. Wasn't going to use the blow off tube either, because none ever needed it. This is a 5.5 gal batch though, so quickly changed my mind. Major lesson learned: blankets and fleece really help to raise temperature...even though it didn't appear to be working at first.
