morning all-

before anyone asks, I DID do some forum searching first. I just need an opinion on a simple recipe. I am lookinng to belt out a batch of red ale before I start my stout, since the stout is going to be tying up equipment for a while. here it is:

6# pale malt extract
2#amber malt extract
1# 80L Crystal
1/2 # 120L crystal
1 1/2 oz Cenntenial (9.8%) 60 min
1 oz Cascade (6.2%) 1 min
Ferment with W.L. English Ale Yeast

any thoughts?

it's going to be a strong, full-bodied, dark, (maybe sweet?) ale.

I think I would like it a lot.

If you want it to be more of an amber color, you might want to use lower lovibond crystal and a touch of roasted barley to give it a dark amber hue.

yeah, that is what I was thinking. Doing another ale will allow me to compare the secondary/non-seconday processes, and then do my stout to be ready in time for X-mas
