Pros...

Visually see fermentation
no air permeability
easy to clean
resists scratching
etc.

Cons....
Heavy
harder to dry hop in
you could cut yourself badly if it breaks
etc.

With that said, I use glass.

Pros:

Wont scratch/bacteria cant hide if properly cleaned
Ya can monitor your beer easily
As long as ya dont break it, it will last forever

Cons:
Heavy when filled
Breakable (bad news)
More expensive

i hear alot of people talking about switching to buckets is one better than the other or just prefrence

Personel preferance, all will do the same job...Although ya hear more stories of the lids popping off buckets than anything. Reason being is ya cant see whats going on. I always throw a blow off tube on my carboys for the first 5 days or so...Better than mopping the ceiling

Gotta give props to the Better Bottle Carboys, best of both worlds IMHO. Only use the bucket when I have to add a lot of dry hops or other adjuncts.
