I plan on brewing a hazelnut brown ale. My plan was to add 1 oz the extract directly to my keg and then siphon the fermenter on top of it.

Can I just add the extract straight from the bottle to the keg or do I need to sanitize it first somehow before adding it?

Thanks,

Joe

BYO mag has a whole big article this month about brewing with seeds and nuts that you should check out if you get the chance-it covers a couple of different ways to get the flavor into the beer. The article mentions "dry seeding" in the secondary so i bet if you're using an extract that fairly pure you could add it in there without any contamination risk and then it will be thoroughly mixed when you rack it to the keg.
