For the beer that I am planning to brew Mr. Malty says that I need 3 tubes of yeast using a 1.89L starter. I don't have 3 tubes, and I don't have a larger beaker. So I did one starter with 1.6L and I was planning on doing a second starter from the first batch. Is there some way to calculate yeast count based on starter steps?

It is a bit futzier to do steps on the Mr. Malty calculator, but you can do it. Basically, you need to manipulate the inputs to determine how much yeast you will have after a 1 L step on your particular configuration, and then put that value into the "viability" box for your second step.

Far easier, though, is to use the wyeast calculator instead.
