I'm not talking about the domesticated fruits. I'm talking about prunus serotina. I found a huge black cherry tree behind my house where I could get several pounds easily.

Has anyone used them? I was going to buy 8 lbs of cherries to rack a Flanders Red on, but if these taste good I will be happy to use them.

(FYI I copied this over to the wine forum, too.)

Interesting. These things grow like weeds.

Did you read the part about cyanide in the leaves? Might try to avoid those, haha.

I think the pits are poisonous too (I've always been told not to eat them)...so how are you going to pit them? They're pretty dang small, that'd be annoying and time consuming.

EDIT: Check this out: Poisonous Plants: Prunus serotina...sounds risky to me.

did you read the part about how they taste?

Flavorless, neither sweet nor sour......

doesnt seem a good fruit to add if you want anything out of it
