Looking for an opinion to see what you all think about this refractometer if it's any good. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Brix-Wort-SG...441?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f1d004861
Easy - Brix x 4 = SG so.... 20 Brix = 1.080, 15.6 Brix = 1.0624, etc. A lot of people agree, Sherpa included, get one with only Brix listed.
I bought mine from eBay ($25-30) with ATC and have had no issues with it, granted I'm really careful, keep it wrapped up when not in use, cleaned and make sure to not drop it or smack it against something lol. SG is dead on (confirmed with hydrometer) every time so far to the point I'm probably going to stop using my hydro. Now for FG, I've tested it several times, the Brix reading must be converted to recognize the presence of alcohol. After using the calculator, I'm confident that my FG accuracy is within +-.002 even when the ABV is in the 8-9.5% range.
I've had this one for over a year and it works great.

I watched the video on this site and he said you can't take a fg with that refractometer. First is that true of all of them and if so how come?
A friend of mine got one off of EBay, it lasted 10 brews before it died. Not saying that this will do the same, just explaining what happened to him.
Sorry to jump in, but what? How does a refractometer die? What happened to it?
