  • The good kind.
  • A friend of mine took a brewing class in college and gave me what remained of his starter kit. It sat around for a couple of years. After I bought my first home and had the room, I dug it out, got a few extra parts and brewed a moderately hopped dark ale. Within 6 months I was brewing twice a week!

I enjoy the technical aspects of brewing. I've built my own immersion chiller, magnetic stir plate and fridge temperature controller. Started brewing AG recently and loving it more!

whirlpooling is that the bulk of the trub settles in a cone in the middle of the vessel, so you
    don't need any filt...

A hair Dryer may make a good substitute for a heat gun in this case. Worth a try as most
households have at least on e hair dryer. SIn my experience, a hair dryer doesn't get hot
    enough. The last time...

One question though - for those using a similar setup with a bulkhead fitting in your MLT (I
don't use a dip tube, but no matter), a T on the outside to house your temp probe, and then a
    valve, and th...

I had a similar problem and I suspect it was, as you suggest, cavitation below the FB. No
matter how slowly I recirculated, eventually the flow would stop and I'd see a large pocket of
    air start slowl...

Because I will be moving these hoses from vessel to vessel with hot liquid still in the hoses,
I thought I would put a ball valve on the ends of the hoses that are farthest from the
    pump.Thanks all.I'...

First, I'd like to add my thanks to the long list in this thread. Fortunately, it started right
around the time I was getting interested in water and I think it saved me from many common
    pitfalls. I'm...
