  • I am a complete newbie. I found a recipe for mead on a website for a company I buy shampoo from, and discovered I had nearly all the basic equipment to hand. Have not made any meads yet. Not interested in anything else at this time.

    Thank you summersolstice! I didn't know why bottles were kept on their side; now I know!I won't
    be making huge batches so a year and perhaps more should work out OK. If this first batch ever
    gets made...

    Oh interesting. Why is corked better for long term? Better oxygen blocking?I'm just trying to
    avoid the expense of a corker at the moment, though reusing wine bottles is easier for me than
    getting bee...
