    ABOUT ME

  • Fairly new to this lovely hobby, but I seem to be moving along quite nicely...I've only been brewing since October 13th, but everything is working out more or less like I want it to! I've lurked these hallowed forums since, harvesting tips and tricks, and I wanted to repay (and continue) by paying for a premium membership and joining the ranks, as it were. Please permit me my noob questions, as I usually search for relevant threads before asking. I'm excited to be here. Good luck and may your labors bring you much fruit (or beer, as it were) and joy.

  • I got into home brewing through a coworker, I went to his house after a going-away party for one of our other coworkers and tried one of his homebrews, checked out his setup, and was inspired. Found a Mr. Beer setup by chance while wasting time at a store and decided why not? I know, I know...but it's a start. Am now running with four 6.5 gallon plastic carboys, a 30 quart SS kettle, an excellent propane-sipping burner, an eager assistant, and a drive to learn and succeed. I use the Mr. Beer barrel for extremely experimental brews and have been stretching the limits of extract and partial-mash since I started. So far, I've made a pale ale, a nut brown, an IPA, a Blue Moon/Grand Cru, a pear cider, an oatmeal espresso chocolate porter, and an agave IPA.
  • Anything and everything. I'm not too crazy about wheat beers, but I'm trying everything to see what I can make successfully. So far, everything is working. That's encouraging.

Cool. Post some pics when you're done if you feel like it, I just used gelatin for the first
time on my Amarillo Pale Ale and am curious how yours is going to turn out. I went the other

There are two schools of thought on this, as far as I've seen. First is dry-hop after fining
with gelatin. Your beer will probably still have a little bit of hop particulates floating
    around, but you'...

I like where you're going with this, but I would be concerned about introducing undesirable
bacteria with your secondary additions. Plus, you might want to do some research about throwing
    veggies into...

I just brewed this with a few minor tweaks - used Special B 115L, added .5 lb. victory malt and
an extra lb. of pale malt, and used 1 oz. Centennial 10.9% in place of the 1.75 oz. Cascade and
    2 oz. Ca...

Thanks guys, this is a big help. Calder, it sounds like you probably have a go-to website for

Hello, I've been searching for a reliable way to try to accurately measure ABV when adding
ingredients during fermentation. I have a modified Haus Pale Ale going right now. I went with a
