  • I got into extract brewing in the early 1980's while living in Charlottesville, Virginia after reading Marvin Reese's book "Better Beer and How to Brew It". I didn't know it at the time but Charlie Papazian lived right around the corner from me and Reese had a homebrew shop in town. Moved to North Carolina for grad school in 1984 and discovered the AHA, got into all-grain, kegging, and yeast culturing. Burned out on home-brewing in 1989 and got back into it after two years during which time I brewed nothing. Current goals are how to make good brews without getting fanatical about it.
