Hmm, I'm not too apt at diagnosing what looks like an infection, but that last picture
definitely looks like some kind of mold or infection. The fact that you mentioned it was a
gusher gives some back...

Slower water flow rate will be more efficient in terms of water usage. I don't pay for water
(rent) so i go full blast (earth smerth). But the slower you go the longer the worthas a chance
to lose it'...
